Itsukushima Shrine
Itsukushima Shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Shinto shrine complex on Miyajima island in Hiroshima Prefecture, famed for its vermilion torii gate that appears to float on the sea at high tide. Built on piers over the water in the Shinden-zukuri style and first developed in its present form in 1168 under Taira no Kiyomori, the shrine remains one of Japan's most photographed and visited sacred sites.
