Price your luggageA twelve-step Japan planning workflow
1 · Choose the dates
Check crowds and seasons
Compare exact dates with national holidays, weather normals and seasonal price pressure before committing to flights or scarce rooms.
2 · Shape the route
Allocate cities and nights
Start with airports, trip length and pace. The itinerary planner keeps the city order connected and shows the real number of hotel changes.
3 · Choose the hotel area
Match the neighborhood to the trip
Compare station access, atmosphere, relative cost, traveler fit and luggage friction, then carry the top area into the airport and budget tools.
4 · Set the booking deadlines
Catch each ticket release
Assign the intended visit date, convert Japan's release time to your local time and export reminders before a scarce ticket window opens.
5 · Plan the airport transfer
Get from the terminal to the right area
Compare the whole group's train, bus and road costs after adding baggage claim, luggage, station walking and the actual first or last service window.
6 · Price local transit
Compare IC cards with city passes
Count rides by operator and day. The calculator keeps uncovered JR and private-rail fares visible, applies child and weekend prices, and recommends a pass only when it saves.
7 · Choose connectivity
Size the data and connection
Estimate data by activity, check whether one router can serve the group and compare individual eSIMs, pocket WiFi or a hybrid before buying a plan.
8 · Set the full budget
Know the trip's working total
Start with rooms, travelers and trip length. Add your real flight quote and a shopping allowance, then adjust the daily categories to match how you travel.
9 · Choose car or train
Price the whole party
Compare rail or bus fares with the rental, fuel, tolls, parking and vehicle capacity. Keep the fast rail leg and rent locally when a hybrid route is the stronger fit.
10 · Replace the rail estimate
Price the exact train legs
Enter each long-distance ride and its trip day. The optimizer checks cash, national passes, regional passes and activation timing, then ranks every option.
11 · Build the packing list
Calculate the clothing cycle
Combine dates, climate, travelers, activities, laundry and the chosen bag. Save progress, edit quantities and export the final checklist.
12 · Make the luggage plan
Compare carrying with forwarding
Measure the packed bag, price the route and check whether it needs an oversized Shinkansen reservation. Add the forwarding total back to your working budget.

Japan travel tools FAQ
Are the Japan travel calculators free?
Yes. All twelve planning tools are free, run without an account and show their answers immediately. You can edit the dates, route, hotel area, ticket deadlines, transport, mobile data, packing list, itinerary, bag or cost assumptions as often as you need.
What does the Japan itinerary planner produce?
It turns a 3 to 30-day trip into a connected city order and allocates every night. Arrival and departure gateways anchor the route, pace controls hotel changes, and interests rank optional bases and day trips.
How does the Japan hotel area finder choose a neighborhood?
It compares 36 areas in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Hiroshima. Your arrival, budget, stay length, traveler type, evening atmosphere, interests, luggage and step-free needs set visible weights, and the tool returns three matches with reasons and trade-offs.
What does the Japan booking deadline planner calculate?
It works backward from individual attraction visit dates to calculate official Ghibli, Disney, Nintendo Museum, JR, SHIBUYA SKY and Grand Sumo release dates. It converts timed releases from JST to your time zone, labels approximate monitor reminders separately and exports calendar events.
How does the Japan crowd calendar choose the best month?
It combines destination-specific crowd pressure, JMA climate normals, seasonal scenery and a relative price factor. You choose whether the ranking should balance everything or favor fewer crowds, comfortable weather, value or scenery.
What does the Japan packing list generator calculate?
It turns exact dates, up to six Japanese destinations, travelers, laundry, bag style and activities into a categorized checklist with clothing quantities, bag placement and Japan-specific reminders. Progress and personal edits save in the current browser, and the list can be copied, downloaded or printed.
What does the airport transfer calculator compare?
It compares trains, airport buses and road transfers from Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Itami, New Chitose and Fukuoka. Results use the whole party's adult and child fares, realistic airport processing, luggage, transfers, station walking, accessibility and typical service-window risk.
Should I use an IC card or a city transit pass?
The IC card and city-pass calculator compares Suica, PASMO, ICOCA or pay as you go with 19 local pass products in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Hiroshima. It prices adults and children, keeps JR and private-rail rides outside passes that do not cover them, and can optimize a one-to-three-day pass sequence.
Is a rental car or train cheaper in Japan?
The rental-car-vs-train calculator compares the whole party on 17 routes. It includes rental, insurance, fuel, tolls, parking, an optional one-way fee, rail or bus fares, station access, luggage capacity and door-to-door time, then recommends public transport, a car or a train-to-local-car hybrid.
Should I use an eSIM or pocket WiFi in Japan?
The connectivity calculator estimates data from eight editable activities, then checks phone readiness, independently moving groups and extra devices. It can recommend individual eSIMs, one pocket WiFi, a hybrid with backup eSIMs or multiple routers, and optionally compares quotes you already found.
What does the Japan trip cost calculator include?
It estimates hostel beds or private rooms, ryokan nights, adults and children, food, local transport, activities, intercity rail, theme parks, connectivity, insurance, luggage, shopping, flights and a contingency buffer. It shows yen plus six travel currencies, per-person and per-day results.
Does the JR Pass calculator include regional passes?
Yes. It compares point-to-point tickets, the 7, 14 and 21-day national Japan Rail Passes and major tourist passes from JR East, JR West, JR Central, JR Kyushu and JR Hokkaido. It also searches for the best activation window on longer trips.
How current is the rail data?
Rail fares, pass prices and coverage rules are stored with source URLs and a verification stamp. Official JR sources are checked first and independent timetable references are used as a cross-check.
Does the luggage calculator use Yamato prices?
Yes. It uses Yamato Transport's published tax-inclusive regional cash fares and applies the size class required by both dimensions and weight. It also adds the official airport handling fee when selected and shows a delivery planning buffer separately.
Are the results booking quotes?
No. The budget result is a planning estimate and the rail result uses regular-season adult fares. Always confirm inventory, seasonal surcharges, exchange rates and pass eligibility before paying.
