Goshono-yu is one of Kinosaki Onsen's seven public sotoyu bathhouses, widely regarded as the most photogenic. Its grand gabled architecture is modelled on the Kyoto Imperial Palace (Gosho) and it is associated with blessings of beauty, marriage, and fire prevention. Features include an open-air waterfall rotenburo in a landscaped courtyard and indoor pools. Tattoos permitted. Ichino-yu

Ichino-yu

Ichino-yu is Kinosaki Onsen's most celebrated public bathhouse, renowned for its grand Edo-style kabuki-theatre facade and its signature cave bath (dokutsu-buro) carved into natural rock. Historically considered the town's finest spring — its name means 'number-one bath' — it carries a traditional blessing of good fortune and academic achievement. Entry costs around ¥700 single (2026 estimate); free with a ryokan Yumepa pass or 1-day sotoyu pass. Tattoo-friendly.

Kinosaki Onsen Station

Kinosaki Onsen Station is the JR San'in Main Line terminus serving Kinosaki Onsen, one of Japan's finest traditional hot-spring towns. The station is the arrival point for the Limited Express 'Kinosaki' from Kyoto (~2h20-2h40) and the 'Kounotori' from Osaka and Kobe (~2h40), both fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass. Facilities include coin lockers, a staffed tourist information centre, and a free foot-bath (ashiyu) on the forecourt. The willow-lined onsen district begins a flat 5-15 minute walk from the exit.
