The most convenient way to reach Otaru from Sapporo is by train. JR Hokkaido operates frequent services between Sapporo Station and Otaru Station. The journey typically takes about 30–45 minutes. Trains depart regularly, usually every 15-20 minutes.

A one-way ticket costs around ¥750 (verify current prices). You can use an IC card like Suica or Pasmo for easy access. The Rapid Airport train is the fastest option, stopping at fewer stations. Check the JR Hokkaido timetable here for exact schedules.
